Biography
Rafael M. Pérez García is a senior lecturer in the Department of Modern History at the University of Seville. He holds a degree in Modern and Contemporary History from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a PhD in History from the University of Seville. His research contributions are in the field of cultural history, the history of spirituality and the social history of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries. His most relevant publications include the following monographs: Sociología y lectura espiritual en la Castilla del Renacimiento (2005) and La imprenta y la literatura espiritual castellana en la España del Renacimiento (2006). In collaboration with Dr. Manuel F. Fernández Chaves, he has published En los márgenes de la Ciudad de Dios. Moriscos en Sevilla (2009), and Las élites moriscas entre Granada y el reino de Sevilla. Rebelión, castigo y supervivencias (2015). He has been PI of projects on the slave trade and the Atlantic economy, and promoted the collaboration agreement between the University of Seville and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) to encourage research in the history of slavery. He is also currently a member of projects on the connections between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, which are financed by the EU and the Junta de Andalucía.
