Biography

Lisa Kattenberg is a Research Fellow in History at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge. She obtained her PhD from the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on reason of state in the Spanish monarchy (1590-1650). Her main lines of research are the ideas and political culture of the Early Modern age, with a special interest in the Spanish Monarchy, the Low Countries, and the Iberian Atlantic. Her research explores the way in which individuals negotiated the tension between political pragmatism and moral and religious principles in an empire under pressure.
